ST. LOUIS — During Thursday night’s hockey game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, St. Louis Blues player Dylan Holloway had to leave the ice on a stretcher after being struck in the neck by a puck late in the first period.
With just 2:37 left in the period, Holloway was hit but managed to finish his shift, continuing to engage in the game before heading to the bench independently. However, the game was halted with 1:11 remaining due to a high-sticking penalty, which was later rescinded. At this point, his teammates began to signal for medical assistance, indicating something was wrong.
Blues head trainer Ray Barile, along with medical personnel from both teams, provided assistance to Holloway for several minutes. Eventually, emergency medical technicians arrived to take him off the ice on a stretcher. Notably, as he was being transported, Holloway was observed raising his arm, appearing to show that he was conscious.
With Holloway’s injury prompting concern, referees Wes McCauley and Cody Beach decided to send the players to their locker rooms and officially opened the first intermission following his removal from the bench.
