MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In an impressive start to the season, Jordan Harrison delivered a standout performance by scoring 18 of her personal-best 23 points in the first half, leading No. 16 West Virginia to a commanding 85-41 victory over Towson on Tuesday night. This triumph marks the beginning of the second season under head coach Mark Kellogg for the Mountaineers.

West Virginia has demonstrated consistency in season openers, boasting a record of 23-3 since the 1999-2000 season and extending its winning streak in openers to 11 consecutive years. Harrison was instrumental in the first half, making six field goals as the Mountaineers built a strong 38-25 advantage, while Towson struggled with its shooting, hitting only 39% of its attempts.

Sydney Shaw, a transfer from Auburn, also made significant contributions, connecting on two 3-pointers during a key stretch in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 53-32. The Mountaineers dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points out of the first 20 to effectively put the game out of reach for Towson.

In addition, JJ Quinerly, recognized on the Naismith College women’s basketball player of the year watchlist, scored 14 points, marking her 68th game with double-digit points as a Mountaineer. Unfortunately for Towson, they were missing their top scorer, Patricia Anumgba, who was sidelined with an injury; Anumgba had averaged a team-leading 14 points last season. Towson struggled throughout the game, turning the ball over 32 times and failing to have any player reach double figures in scoring.
