Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks secured his position in the U.S. House of Representatives for New York during the election held on Tuesday.
He successfully faced off against Republican Paul King in a rematch from the previous year’s election.
Meeks, who serves as the leading Democrat and has previously chaired the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, is also an established senior member of the House Financial Services Committee.
His tenure in office dates back to 1998, marking over two decades of service.
The district he represents encompasses areas that are significant cultural hubs for Black communities in Queens, along with notable landmarks such as Kennedy Airport and the scenic Rockaway coastline.
The announcement of Meeks’ victory was made at 9:08 p.m. EST.
