Democratic Congressman Adriano Espaillat successfully secured reelection for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday. Espaillat, who made his congressional debut in 2016, brings with him a wealth of experience from spending 20 years in New York’s state legislature.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Espaillat immigrated to the United States during his childhood. He has the distinction of being the first Dominican American elected to serve in Congress. Representing a district that is predominantly Latino, his constituency encompasses upper Manhattan along with parts of the Bronx.

In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Espaillat serves on several important committees, including the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the Committee on Small Business. His victory was officially announced at 9:05 p.m. EST.
