Republican Representative David Kustoff secured his position in the U.S. House by winning reelection on Tuesday.
This victory marks Kustoff’s fifth term representing Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District, which includes parts of Memphis and nearby suburbs.
He emerged victorious against Democrat Sarah Freeman in a highly contested race.
Prior to his current role, Kustoff was the U.S. attorney for the western region of Tennessee from 2006 to 2008, during which he played a significant role in prosecuting the Tennessee Waltz political corruption investigations.
These efforts led to guilty pleas or convictions for a total of 12 individuals, including former state Senator John Ford.
In Congress, Kustoff is a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, which is responsible for matters related to taxation and revenue generation.
His win was officially announced at 8:50 p.m. EST.
