Democrat LaMonica McIver secured a U.S. House seat for New Jersey during the elections held on Tuesday.
McIver triumphed over Republican candidate Carmen Bucco and several third-party contenders.
Her victory in the 10th Congressional District marks her second significant win within a two-month span, having previously claimed a special election in September after the passing of Rep. Donald Payne Jr. earlier this year.
Having served as the City Council president in Newark, which is New Jersey’s largest city, McIver was recently sworn in to complete the remaining term of Payne.
The announcement of her win was made at 8:38 p.m. EST.
