Democrat Morgan McGarvey has secured his position in the U.S. House, representing Kentucky after winning the election on Tuesday.
The Louisville-area candidate defeated his Republican opponent, Mike Craven, allowing him to embark on a second term in a district known for being one of the few Democratic bastions left in the state.
Currently, McGarvey holds the distinction of being the sole Democrat within Kentucky’s congressional delegation.
Prior to his time in Congress, he spent ten years as a state senator, including four years in a leadership role as the head Democrat in a legislature predominantly controlled by Republicans.
McGarvey is well-known for his bipartisan strategy, having collaborated with members of the opposing party on various legislative matters at the state level, a practice he aims to maintain while serving in Washington.
His congressional agenda prominently features initiatives aimed at supporting military veterans and addressing the pressing issue of gun violence.
Reports confirmed McGarvey’s victory shortly after 8:30 p.m. EST.
