Mark Messmer, a Republican candidate, successfully secured a seat in the U.S. House representing Indiana during the election held on Tuesday.
The former majority leader of the Indiana state Senate triumphed over Democrat Erik Hurt, who manages a movie theater in Evansville.
In September, Messmer stepped down from his position in the state Senate to concentrate on his bid for the congressional seat left open by the retirement of Larry Bucshon, a long-serving Republican representative who held the office for seven terms.
Throughout his campaign, Messmer emphasized several key issues, including his proposals for the deportation of undocumented immigrants, unwavering support for Israel, and the advancement of blockchain technology while advocating for the absence of a cryptocurrency issued by the central bank.
The election results were declared in Messmer’s favor at precisely 7:06 p.m. EST.
