HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr. is currently hospitalized after experiencing a serious head injury during a recent game.

As of Tuesday, Burnett remained in the hospital, with officials from Alabama A&M confirming his condition. Specific details regarding the nature of Burnett’s injury, which occurred during a play against Alabama State on October 26, have not been made public.

In light of his hospitalization, a fundraising campaign on gofundme.com has successfully garnered over $17,000 towards a target of $100,000. This initiative aims to assist Burnett’s family with expenses, including housing, so they can be with him during this challenging time.

According to a post by Burnett’s sister, Dominece, he has suffered significant medical complications, including multiple brain bleeds and swelling. She detailed that he required a drainage tube to alleviate pressure from his injuries and, after experiencing two days of intense pressure, a craniotomy was performed as a critical last measure to attempt to save his life.

On Saturday, an update indicated that Burnett was facing complications; however, no additional details were shared regarding his current state.

Burnett is a second-year freshman who hails from Lakewood, California, and made the transition from Grambling State during the off-season.
