OKLAHOMA CITY — In an impressive performance, Jalen Williams netted 23 points while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 21 points along with nine assists, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a decisive 102-86 victory against the Orlando Magic on Monday night. With this win, the Thunder have maintained an unbeaten record in the Western Conference, having won all seven of their games by a margin of at least 12 points.
Chet Holmgren also made a notable impact, scoring 14 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and recording two blocks. In contrast, the Magic were hindered in their performance due to the absence of injured starters Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. Franz Wagner emerged as the leading scorer for Orlando with 22 points, while Jalen Suggs contributed 19 points, alongside six assists and six rebounds. Goga Bitadze added 11 points and nine rebounds but the team still fell short with a record of 3-5.
Newly acquired Kentavious Caldwell-Pope struggled on the court, managing only six points on 1-for-7 shooting. Meanwhile, Anthony Black had a challenging outing as well, scoring just three points from 1-for-8 shooting.
Observations from the game reveal that the Magic faced significant difficulty in scoring, completing only 29 of their 82 attempts from the field, translating to a shooting percentage of 35.4%. By halftime, the Magic had managed only 43 points, and they ended the third quarter with 58.
On the other hand, the Thunder showcased their offensive depth with five players scoring in double figures, including Isaiah Joe who added 13 points and Aaron Wiggins with 11 points. Oklahoma City finished the game with an impressive field goal shooting percentage of 45.9%. Notably, Gilgeous-Alexander recorded a personal best of seven assists in the first quarter.
A significant moment came when the Thunder were ahead 73-57 with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter. Joe took control of the game, hitting three consecutive three-pointers to push the lead to 24 points, ultimately ending that quarter at 82-58.
In terms of shooting statistics, the Thunder excelled with 12 successful three-pointers out of 31 attempts, while the Magic struggled mightily, hitting just 1 out of 17 from beyond the arc in the first half and finishing with a dismal 5 out of 34 for the entire game.
Looking ahead, the Magic are scheduled to play against Indiana on Wednesday, while the Thunder will face off against Denver on the same day.
