WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Cameron Hildreth was the standout player for Wake Forest, scoring 15 points in their 64-49 victory against Coppin State on Monday night.
Hildreth showcased his shooting ability, converting 4 of 8 attempts from the field and hitting 3 of his 6 attempts from beyond the arc. Alongside him, Omaha Biliew contributed 11 points to the team’s total, with Wake Forest collectively shooting 39% (22 of 56) from the floor during the game.
Hunter Sallis, who was the top scorer for Wake Forest last season with an average of 18 points per game, added 10 points and provided five assists in this match-up. Tre’Von Spillers also made a notable contribution, scoring nine points and grabbing nine rebounds.
For Coppin State, Derrius Ward led his team with a strong performance, making three 3-pointers and finishing with 19 points. However, the Eagles struggled throughout the game, shooting only 28% (17 of 60) from the field.
Wake Forest maintained control throughout the contest, never allowing Coppin State to take the lead. They ended the first half with a solid 42-22 lead, thanks to a decisive 16-7 run. Hildreth managed to score 10 points in the first half, while Biliew added eight, each hitting two shots from beyond the arc.
A highlight of the second half was Biliew’s impressive dunk, which extended Wake Forest’s lead to 22 points. The Demon Deacons capitalized on Coppin State’s mistakes, scoring 18 points off 20 turnovers committed by their opponents.
This matchup marked the second time the two teams faced each other; previously, Wake Forest also came out on top, winning 69-52 on February 6, 1989.
