NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In a thrilling season opener on Monday night, Vanderbilt showcased a dominant performance, decisively defeating Maryland Eastern Shore with a score of 102-63. Devin McGlockton emerged as a standout player, pouring in 24 points and securing 13 rebounds, effectively marking his impact on the game.
McGlockton was impressive throughout, hitting all 10 of his field-goal attempts, which included three electrifying dunks. Additionally, he contributed from the free-throw line, converting 4 of 5 attempts.
This matchup also marked the Vanderbilt coaching debut for Mark Byington, who previously led James Madison to an outstanding 32-4 season and a spot in the NCAA Tournament last year.
Vanderbilt commanded the game early and went into halftime with a 45-33 lead, then erupted with a remarkable 57 points in the second half. One of the highlights of their performance was their exceptional ball control, finishing the game with a mere single turnover.
Supporting McGlockton’s efforts, Jason Edwards added 19 points along with five assists. Tyler Nickel contributed 14 points, while Jaylen Carey chipped in another 13 points to the scoreboard.
For Maryland Eastern Shore, Ketron Shaw led the team with 23 points, and Cardell Bailey contributed 10 points. The Hawks featured a fresh roster of 13 players under the leadership of first-year head coach Cleo Hill Jr., showcasing a team in transition.
