SAN ANTONIO — Left-handed pitcher Wandy Peralta has opted to activate his $4.25 million option to continue playing for the San Diego Padres.
In a contrasting move, Ha-Seong Kim, the Gold Glove infielder, has decided to forgo his $8 million mutual option, making him a free agent. As a result of this decision, he will receive a $2 million buyout.
Peralta’s decision ensures him a guaranteed sum of $16.5 million, part of a potential four-year contract. This year, he earned a salary of $3.35 million, and the agreement includes player options valued at $4.45 million for both the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
The 33-year-old Peralta made 46 appearances out of the bullpen this season and finished with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.99. However, his performance was hampered by a left adductor strain that kept him out of action between July 9 and September 4.
Ha-Seong Kim’s season was marred by injury, as he suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder on August 18, which required surgery to end his season. During his final year of a four-year, $28 million contract, he recorded a batting average of .233, alongside 11 home runs and 22 stolen bases.
