LEWISTON, N.Y. — Jahari Williamson led the way for the Niagara Purple Eagles with an impressive performance, scoring 16 points in their season opener against Division III Houghton, resulting in a decisive 100-65 victory on Monday evening.
In addition to his scoring, Williamson demonstrated his defensive prowess with three steals. Olumide Adelodun also made a significant contribution, finishing the game with 15 points. He showcased his shooting skills by going 5 for 9 from the field, which included an outstanding 3 for 4 from three-point range, along with hitting 2 of 3 free throws, and he matched Williamson’s three steals.
Justin Page added to the team’s total by scoring 12 points, shooting 5 of 9 overall and making 2 of 5 attempts from beyond the arc. On the other hand, the Highlanders had Jajuan Preaster as their standout player, leading his team with 16 points and securing two steals.
Preston Thomas supported Houghton with a solid performance, contributing 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds, along with making two steals. Lou Bellamy played a notable role as well, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The match showcased strong performances on both sides, but the Purple Eagles ultimately dominated the game.
