SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — In an exciting season opener, Adama Bal scored 24 points to propel Santa Clara to an 85-78 victory against Saint Louis on Monday evening.

Bal had an impressive shooting performance, connecting on 7 of 13 shots overall, including 3 of 7 from beyond the arc, and finished strong at the free-throw line, hitting 7 of 8 attempts. Camaron Tongue also made significant contributions, scoring 18 points with a shooting line of 6 for 11 from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from the charity stripe, while grabbing seven rebounds. Additionally, Christoph Tilly contributed 17 points, shooting 6 for 7 from the field and hitting 2 of 3 three-pointers, along with 3 of 4 from the free-throw line.

On the opposing side, the Billikens found their scoring leader in Isaiah Swope, who matched Bal’s 24 points and dished out five assists. Both Kellen Thames and Robbie Avila added to the offense as well, each finishing with 16 points.

The game took a decisive turn when Santa Clara seized the lead for good with just 41 seconds remaining in the first half. Bal played a crucial role by scoring 17 points during that opening half, allowing Santa Clara to head into halftime with a 48-41 advantage. Following the break, Tilly emerged as the top scorer for the Broncos with 13 points, helping to solidify their lead and ultimately secure the win.
