Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was removed from the game during a match in Green Bay following a helmet-to-helmet collision with Packers receiver Bo Melton.
The incident unfolded after quarterback Jordan Love attempted a long pass to Melton on second-and-20 during the second quarter. Branch’s actions led to a penalty for unnecessary roughness, and officials deemed the nature of the hit severe enough to justify ejection from the game.
Frustrated with the decision, Branch expressed his anger, resulting in an additional penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after he directed gestures toward fans in the stands at Lambeau Field. Subsequently, he was led off the field and into the team’s locker room.
As a result of the penalty, rather than facing a challenging third-and-20 from their own 38-yard line, the Packers were awarded a first down at Detroit’s 32-yard line. However, despite the advantageous field position, Green Bay was unable to take advantage of the opportunity, as Brandon McManus missed a 46-yard field goal attempt, sending the ball wide left.
