Mexico City—Bam Adebayo was a standout performer, netting 32 points, with 20 of those coming in the first half as the Miami Heat triumphed over the Washington Wizards with a score of 118-98 on Saturday night. This matchup marked the 14th regular-season NBA game held in Mexico.

Adebayo also grabbed 14 rebounds and had an impressive shooting performance, hitting 12 out of 24 attempts from the field. Contributing to Miami’s victory were Jimmy Butler with 18 points, Tyler Herro who scored 15, and Terry Rozier adding 12 as the Heat improved their record to 3-2. Off the bench, Kel’El Ware contributed another 15 points, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. marked his first game in Mexico by scoring eight points, playing in his father’s homeland.

The Wizards, now with a record of 2-3, were led by Bilal Coulibaly’s 22 points. In addition, Jordan Poole scored 21 points, and Alexandre Sarr added 17 to the Wizards’ efforts.

Before tip-off, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the league had come to an agreement with local organizers to host more games in Mexico moving forward.

In terms of individual performances, Adebayo’s double-double count reached 194, positioning him just 11 away from tying Alonzo Mourning for second place in franchise history, behind Rony Seikaly who holds the record with 221 double-doubles. For the Wizards, Coulibaly has been in fine form, scoring 15 or more points in four consecutive games, which is a personal best for the 20-year-old, who recently set a career-high with 27 points against the Atlanta Hawks.

A pivotal moment in the game occurred in the second quarter when Tyler Herro scored five points during a 13-3 run, boosting the Heat’s lead to 51-34 with under four minutes left in the half.

A key statistic from the matchup was Miami’s dominance on the boards, as they outrebounded Washington 65 to 44.

Looking ahead, the Wizards will host the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, while the Miami Heat will return home to face the Sacramento Kings.
