Parayko nets two goals, Broberg injured as Blues defeat Maple Leafs 4-2 in Berube’s comeback to St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — In a thrilling matchup, the St. Louis Blues triumphed over the Toronto Maple Leafs, clinching a 4-2 victory on Saturday night, effectively ending a stretch of three consecutive losses. Colton Parayko was a standout player for the Blues, netting two goals, while Jordan Kyrou also contributed with a goal of his own. Adding to the excitement, Pavel Buchnevich sealed the win with an empty-net goal just 39 seconds before the game concluded. St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington was impressive in net, making 36 saves throughout the game.

The Maple Leafs saw goals from Mitch Marner and Steven Lorentz, both scoring their second of the season, while the match marked the debut of St. Louis coach Craig Berube back at Enterprise Center since his dismissal from the team on December 12, 2023. Berube, who led the Blues to the Stanley Cup championship in 2019, faced his former team with determination.

Parayko’s second goal came at a pivotal moment, putting the Blues ahead 3-1 just over halfway through the second period, while his first goal evened the score at 1-1 early in the second. Kyrou, breaking his personal goal drought of ten games, scored his third goal of the season after a deflection from Jake McCabe’s skate, further solidifying the Blues’ advantage.

On the Toronto side, goalie Joseph Woll, originally from a suburb of St. Louis, made 20 saves in his first-ever appearance at the Enterprise Center. The Maple Leafs started strong, dominating the first period after Marner’s goal and outshooting the Blues 12-4. Nevertheless, they were unable to maintain that momentum in the face of a determined Blues squad that seized opportunities when the Maple Leafs faltered in the second period.

A significant moment of the game occurred when Blues defenseman Philip Broberg was forced to leave due to a lower-body injury resulting from Marner landing on his ankle during a puck battle early in the second period. Broberg was tied for the team lead in points with nine prior to his exit, sharing the spot with Kyrou.

In terms of statistics, the Blues have now secured their fourth victory against an Eastern Conference opponent, placing them second among Western Conference teams, only trailing Minnesota, which has six wins against the East.

Looking ahead, the Maple Leafs will travel to Minnesota to wrap up their two-game road trip on Sunday, while the Blues will face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning at home on Tuesday, marking the second game of a five-game homestand.
