ARLINGTON, Texas — On Saturday, reliever David Robertson opted not to take the $7 million mutual option with the Texas Rangers, which means he will receive a $1.5 million buyout and is now a free agent.

Robertson had signed a one-year contract back in January that came with a $10 million salary, but half of that amount, specifically $5 million, was set to be deferred without interest.

The 39-year-old right-handed pitcher finished the season with a record of 3-4 and an impressive 3.00 ERA over 72 innings across 68 appearances, accumulating two saves, while striking out 99 batters and issuing 27 walks.

Having enjoyed a successful career spanning 16 seasons in Major League Baseball, Robertson boasts a career record of 66 wins, 46 losses, and a remarkable 2.91 ERA, along with 177 saves. His journey has included significant stints with the New York Yankees (from 2008 to 2014 and again in 2017-2018), the Chicago White Sox (2015-2017), the Philadelphia Phillies (2019), the Tampa Bay Rays (2021), the Chicago Cubs (2022), the New York Mets (2023), the Miami Marlins (2023), and most recently, the Texas Rangers.
