WASHINGTON — Ja’Shawn Scroggins delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, tossing four touchdown passes and adding one more on the ground, leading Howard to a commanding 38-0 victory over Delaware State.

In the first half alone, Scroggins connected on three touchdown passes, helping the Bison (4-5, 1-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to a 24-0 lead.

He completed 24 of 41 attempts, racking up a total of 304 passing yards. Two of his touchdown passes were caught by Kasey Hawthorne, who recorded 105 yards with nine receptions. Breylin Smith and Montrell Walker were on the receiving end of the other two touchdown throws.

In addition to his success in the air, Scroggins contributed on the ground, rushing for 60 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown run that expanded Howard’s lead to 31-0 by the end of the third quarter.

On the opposing side, Delaware State struggled offensively, with C.J. Henry completing just 6 of 20 passes for a mere 44 yards while throwing two interceptions. This loss marks the seventh consecutive defeat for the Hornets (1-8, 0-2).

The Bison dominated the game statistically, achieving a 31-6 edge in first downs and outgaining the Hornets 560 yards to just 116.

This victory also marked Howard’s first shutout since they achieved a 31-0 win against Morehouse College in 2022.
