In a decisive football matchup, Presbyterian College triumphed over Dayton with a score of 28-7 on Saturday. Peter Lipscombe played a key role in the victory by successfully kicking four field goals, while Tariq Hollinger made significant contributions on defense by recovering two fumbles.
The Blue Hose, now with a record of 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Pioneer Football League, secured their second consecutive win after navigating through three closely contested games, which included two overtime battles. Quante Jennings and Worth Warner also made their presence felt by adding touchdown runs to the team’s performance.
The scoring opened with a 37-yard field goal from Lipscombe. Following this, Dayton’s special teams made a critical error by fumbling the kickoff at their own 14-yard line, leading to a mishap in the end zone just four plays later, allowing Presbyterian to take a 5-0 lead.
Afterward, Lipscombe continued to put points on the board with two additional field goals, which came on the heels of running touchdowns by Jennings, who notched a 12-yard score in the second quarter, and Warner, who contributed an 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Jennings wrapped up the game with an impressive total of 89 rushing yards.
The Flyers managed to put some points on the scoreboard in the last moments of the third quarter, courtesy of a two-yard run by Mason Hackett. However, that would be their only touchdown of the match. Collin Hurst had an impressive performance for Presbyterian, completing 22 of 27 passes for a total of 208 yards.
On the other hand, Dayton’s Drew VanVleet completed 26 of 40 passes, gaining 231 yards but suffered from an interception, along with the team’s struggles with three fumbles throughout the game.
Overall, it was an eventful game where offensive plays complemented defensive efforts, allowing Presbyterian to secure a solid victory.
