MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Anthony Chiccitt led the way for Robert Morris on Saturday by passing for 236 yards, including a remarkable 82-yard touchdown, as the team triumphed over Merrimack with a score of 6-0 in their first matchup against each other.
The standout play came when Chiccitt connected with Shawn Charles on a long pass along the left sideline, allowing Charles to dash past the defenders and complete a 99-yard drive with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter. Although the attempt for the extra point was blocked, the touchdown proved to be enough for the win.
Defensively, Robert Morris was impressive, limiting Merrimack to just 264 yards of total offense. Jamar Shegog, who was recognized as the Northeast Conference’s defensive player of the week after recording 10 tackles last game, elevated his performance with 15 tackles in this contest, five of which were unassisted.
On offense, Julian White was the primary rusher for Robert Morris (6-3), accumulating 62 yards on 11 carries. Notably absent was Tyvon Edmonds Jr., who had previously spent his first three seasons at Merrimack and did not participate in this game.
For Merrimack (4-5), Ayden Pereira completed 9 of 17 passes for a total of 117 yards and contributed on the ground as well, rushing 17 times for 54 yards.
Looking ahead, Robert Morris will face a critical matchup against Duquesne at Rooney Field on November 9, where the battle for the top position in the Northeast Conference will intensify.
