ANGERS, France — In an impressive display of resilience, Amber Glenn captured her first Grand Prix figure skating title at the Grand Prix de France on Saturday, despite facing challenges during her performance.

The American athlete maintained her lead from the short program held on Friday, allowing her to approach the free skate with a slight edge. However, the competition took a toll on her as she experienced difficulties during her routine, including a fall on a triple flip and needing to touch the ice for balance on two additional jumps.

“I didn’t feel that great out there today but I really tried and the audience really got me through that last half when I was doubting myself,” Glenn shared after her routine. She expressed gratitude for the support she received from the audience, stating, “The audience was really strong and really encouraging, so I really fought for everything I could.”

Though Glenn finished with the third-best score in the free skate, her total score of 210.44 points secured her the top position overall. She outperformed Japanese skaters Wakaba Higuchi, who previously triumphed at Skate America last month, and Rion Sumiyoshi.

South Korean skater Kim Chaeyeon, who ranked second in the short program, slipped to fourth place overall after the free skate, just ahead of 17-year-old American Sarah Everhardt, who was competing in her first Grand Prix event.

The day also witnessed the conclusion of the men’s, ice dance, and pairs competitions, rounding out an exciting event for figure skating enthusiasts.
