BOCA RATON, Fla. — In an exciting game on Friday night, Bryce Archie led South Florida to a 44-21 victory over Florida Atlantic, throwing two touchdown passes and adding a rushing touchdown during an explosive 24-point third quarter.
South Florida (4-4, 2-2 in the American Athletic Conference) found themselves trailing 14-7 at halftime. However, Archie evened the score with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Barely trailing, Florida Atlantic (2-6, 0-4) quickly responded when Cam Fancher connected with CJ Campbell Jr. for a 63-yard scoring touchdown, putting the Owls back in front.
However, Archie then threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Sean Atkins and followed it up with a 3-yard touchdown to Kelley Joiner, surrounding John Cannon’s successful 34-yard field goal. This scoring surge gave the Bulls a commanding 31-21 lead heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, South Florida continued their dominance with Joiner scoring a 17-yard rushing touchdown, and Ta’Ron Keith adding a spectacular 55-yard touchdown run. In the second half alone, the Bulls outscored the Owls 37-7, marking their second consecutive victory after experiencing a tough three-game losing streak.
Florida Atlantic struck first in the game, with Campbell finding the end zone on a 9-yard run, giving them a 7-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Bulls bounced back midway through the second quarter, featuring a thrilling 64-yard touchdown run from Nay’Quan Wright. Campbell then regained the lead for the Owls with a 30-yard rushing touchdown, concluding the first half with a score of 14-7 in favor of Florida Atlantic.
Archie finished the game completing 19 of 32 passes for a total of 206 yards. In addition, Wright had an impressive outing, accumulating 117 yards on 17 carries with Joiner and Keith contributing 89 yards and 81 yards respectively on the ground, leading to a total rushing effort of 319 yards for the Bulls.
On the opposing side, Fancher threw for 306 yards, successfully completing 22 of his 42 attempts. Campbell played well overall, contributing 90 rushing yards on 12 carries, along with five receptions for 78 yards.
