SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Curry will miss his third consecutive game for the Golden State Warriors on Saturday as he continues to recover from a left ankle injury. However, he did take part in some practice drills on Friday, indicating he is on the mend.
Following a re-evaluation by the Warriors’ medical team, it was confirmed that Curry, who is the all-time leader in NBA 3-point shooting, is making notable progress. He has been cleared to engage in light practicing, according to the team’s announcement.
Curry is set for another examination on Sunday, just before the Warriors face off against Washington on Monday. His ankle injury occurred during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers last Sunday, where the team suffered a defeat. The 36-year-old guard, now in his 16th NBA season, underwent an MRI that indicated no structural damage, although it did reveal a strain in the left peroneal muscle.
After a successful home game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, Curry mentioned he was “feeling better” while leaving the locker room. His injury forced him to exit the game against the Clippers with 7:55 left in the final quarter. Prior to that, he had briefly returned to play but re-injured the ankle when he attempted to maneuver past Kris Dunn, causing his ankle to awkwardly roll outward. This incident occurred close to the end of Golden State’s bench, leading him to limp down the tunnel toward the locker room.
The initial indication of the injury occurred at the 2:43 mark in the third quarter, when he was seen hobbling to the bench and remained there for the rest of the period. Over his career, the two-time MVP has frequently dealt with ankle complications on both feet.
In a related note on Friday, guard De’Anthony Melton was assessed for a strained lower back and will also sit out for a third game on Saturday, with plans for another evaluation next week.
