SHIGA, Japan — The third round of the LPGA’s Japan tournament was canceled on Saturday due to severe weather conditions linked to Typhoon Kong-rey, resulting in the event being shortened to just 54 holes.
The LPGA announced that the tournament will now wrap up on Sunday at Seta Golf Course.
Typhoon Kong-rey has primarily impacted the Philippines and Taiwan, where it has caused significant damage, including strong winds and flooding, claiming the lives of two individuals in Taiwan.
In the tournament, Hana Wakimoto from Japan secured her position at the top following a 4-under 68 performance on Friday, maintaining her lead after the second round. She achieved an impressive opening round with a score of 63, totaling 13-under-par with a score of 131.
Challenging her lead, American golfer Yealimi Noh and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn each finished just two strokes behind after the second round, with Noh posting a score of 65 and Jutanugarn a 66.
This event in Japan marks the conclusion of a four-tournament Asian circuit for the LPGA Tour, which included competitions held in China, South Korea, and Malaysia.
