MADRID — In a thrilling encounter in La Liga on Friday, Alaves secured a vital 1-0 victory at home against Mallorca, ending their frustrating streak of five consecutive losses.
Jon Guridi emerged as the hero for Alaves, scoring the only goal of the match with just 14 minutes remaining on the clock.
Prior to this win, a sixth straight defeat would have been a worrying sign for the Basque club, marking the worst league performance they have experienced in over three years.
Guridi capitalized on a fortunate rebound that landed directly in front of him, showing good composure to finish from just three meters away.
This marked Guridi’s first goal of the current season, a welcome breakthrough for both him and his team.
“We’ve conceded goals in the last few games so we needed this,” Guridi commented post-match. “After five defeats, doubts can arise, but we are united.”
The victory propelled Alaves up to 12th place in the league standings, while Mallorca slipped to seventh.
