ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays have made the decision to activate their $10.5 million club option on infielder Brandon Lowe following his impressive performance this season, where he led the team with a total of 21 home runs.
The announcement regarding Lowe’s contract status was released on Friday.
Throughout his seventh year with the Rays, the 30-year-old infielder recorded a batting average of .244 and accumulated 58 RBIs across 107 games. Additionally, he topped the team in several categories including runs scored (56), slugging percentage (.473), and OPS (.784).
Erik Neander, the Rays’ president of baseball operations, expressed confidence in Lowe’s ability, stating, “Since his debut in 2018, his performance at second base has consistently ranked among the best in the league, and we are eager to see him continue that success next season.”
Lowe initially signed a six-year contract worth $24 million with the Rays in March 2019, which came with club options that extend into the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Drafted as a third-round selection in the 2015 amateur draft out of the University of Maryland, Lowe has a career batting average of .245, hitting a total of 126 home runs, including a personal record of 39 home runs during the 2021 season, along with 363 RBIs in 611 games played for the Rays.
