LOS ANGELES — Freddie Freeman, the World Series MVP, battled through a rib injury during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pursuit of their championship title, amidst other physical challenges as well.
Freeman disclosed during the World Series victory celebration on Friday that he suffered from an intercostal strain, a painful rib injury that typically sidelines athletes for an extended period.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts highlighted Freeman’s resilience, introducing him to the audience as a player who “competed with one leg and one rib.”
Additionally, Freeman faced a right ankle sprain in the closing days of the regular season and fractured his middle finger back in August. On a personal note, his son Maximus experienced a serious health issue, which required Freeman to take a break from the team during that difficult time.
Throughout the World Series against the New York Yankees, Freeman showcased his remarkable talent by belting four home runs and driving in 12 runs during the Dodgers’ five-game triumph.
