CINCINNATI — Ty France, the first baseman, and outfielder Nick Martini declared themselves as free agents on Friday after they declined assignments to Triple-A Louisville from the Cincinnati Reds.
In contrast, right-handed pitcher Tejay Antone, who is recovering from his third elbow surgery, opted to accept an outright assignment to the Bats. Additionally, catcher Austin Wynns was also assigned outright to Louisville. Both Antone and Wynns were activated from the 60-day injured list.
During his time with the Reds, France recorded a .251 batting average along with five home runs and 20 RBIs across 179 at-bats over 52 games this season. The Reds had obtained the 30-year-old player from the Seattle Mariners on July 29 in exchange for catcher Andruw Salcedo. As part of the deal, Seattle agreed to contribute $1,294,758 to help cover part of France’s $6,775,000 salary.
Martini’s performance was recorded as a .212 batting average with five home runs and 24 RBIs over 52 games. The 34-year-old kicked off the season with a strong showing, hitting two home runs and driving in five RBIs on opening day against Washington.
Antone, the 30-year-old right-handed pitcher, made only four appearances this season before undergoing surgery to fix a tendon and ligament in his right arm. This was not his first major surgery, as he had already gone through Tommy John surgeries in both April 2017 and August 2021.
Furthermore, the Reds announced that they have claimed right-hander Christian Roa off waivers from the Miami Marlins. This 25-year-old pitcher, who was drafted in the second round in 2020, had a record of 4-4 with a 5.55 ERA in four starts alongside 19 relief appearances for Louisville.
