NEW YORK — The New York Sirens, a team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), have officially signed their top draft pick, Sarah Fillier, to a one-year contract.
This announcement was made on Friday, nearly four months after Fillier was selected first overall in the PWHL draft, where she was recognized for her impressive performance as a forward for the Canadian national team and Princeton University.

General Manager Pascal Daoust praised Fillier, highlighting her infectious energy that energizes both her teammates and fans. “When Sarah steps on the ice, she brings an energy that ignites both her teammates and fans alike,” Daoust remarked. “Her game combines passion, excitement, growth, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”

At 24, Fillier has already contributed significantly to women’s hockey, including playing a pivotal role in Canada’s gold medal victory at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Since 2018, she has been honing her skills while playing in college hockey at Princeton.

Expressing her enthusiasm for joining the Sirens, Fillier stated, “Playing in the PWHL will be a dream come true, and I cannot wait to make New York my home. I am excited to get on the ice with my teammates in front of the best fans in the league. I want to help elevate women’s sport to new heights and make girls across the world realize their dreams of playing professional hockey are within reach.”

Fillier’s arrival comes as the Sirens prepare for the upcoming second season of the PWHL. In their inaugural season, the team struggled, finishing last among the six participating teams with only nine wins out of 24 games.

For their home games, the Sirens will primarily utilize the New Jersey Devils’ arena in Newark, transitioning from a previous arrangement where they played at three different venues across the area.
