CINCINNATI — A significant blaze underneath a bridge that crosses the Ohio River prompted the closure of a major roadway connecting Cincinnati with northern Kentucky on Friday, causing damage to part of the bridge’s steel framework. Fortunately, no injuries have been documented in connection with the incident.

The fire ignited overnight in a playground area located in a park situated beneath the bridge, leading to the complete shutdown of Interstate 471, as confirmed by an official from the Cincinnati Fire Department.

Footage captured during the event showed flames erupting dramatically above the bridge near downtown Cincinnati, with large pieces of concrete reportedly falling from the structure. Firefighters indicated that some steel beams were also distorted due to the heat.

Although the flames were brought under control after several hours, the bridge will remain closed to traffic until further notice. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
