In the final stretch of the presidential race, both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are honing in on Wisconsin, a crucial battleground state.
As the campaign intensifies, issues surrounding potential foreign interference in the upcoming election in Georgia have also emerged. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger reported that the state has been targeted by a deceptive video, believed to originate from Russian trolls.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has commenced an investigation into this matter.
In the lead-up to Election Day, Trump and Harris are set to host competing rallies in the Milwaukee area. Milwaukee stands as the epicenter of Democratic strength in Wisconsin, while its surrounding conservative suburbs are significant for Trump’s campaign. In 2016, Trump narrowly secured this state, but he suffered a loss in 2020, making these suburban areas vital for his attempt to regain support.
Raffensperger further addressed the situation in Georgia, asserting that the video circulating on social media, which falsely alleges illegal voting by a Haitian immigrant brandishing multiple Georgia IDs, is indicative of disinformation tactics. He emphasized that such efforts are meant to create confusion and discord ahead of the election.
The misleading video made its rounds on the platform X, claiming to show a person plotting to vote multiple times across different counties. However, Raffensperger confirmed that this claim is untrue and part of a targeted disinformation campaign.
An analysis conducted by a prominent news organization revealed that the names on two of the IDs do not correspond to any registered voters in the respective counties.
Although the original video was removed from the platform by Friday morning, various altered versions continue to circulate widely.
In another dimension of the political landscape, Trump intensified his criticisms of former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney. At an event in Glendale, Arizona, alongside Tucker Carlson, he labeled Cheney a “war hawk.” When questioned about her active campaigning against him, Trump didn’t hold back. Having previously served as the third-ranking Republican in the House, Cheney lost her position following her impeachment vote against Trump in response to the January 6 insurrection. Since then, she has supported Harris in her campaign.
Trump described Cheney as “a deranged person” and remarked that her inclination towards military intervention would lead to America being involved in conflicts across numerous countries if it were up to her.
