FRANKFORT, Ky. — On Thursday, Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear embraced the Halloween festivities by dressing up as the beloved fictional soccer coach, Ted Lasso, at the opening of his press conference. Although he lacked the signature mustache, he still managed to capture the character’s essence.

“Happy Halloween!” the Democratic governor enthusiastically declared before addressing several pertinent state matters. His outfit included a blue zip-up jacket, a visor, and sunglasses, mirroring the attire worn by comedian Jason Sudeikis in the show about an American coach tackling the challenges of leading a soccer team in London.

However, Beshear soon shifted out of character, choosing to first remove the sunglasses and later the visor and jacket as he continued with his official updates at the Kentucky Statehouse.

On his social media, Beshear celebrated the spooky holiday by sharing his costume and incorporating the motivational phrase made famous by Ted Lasso: “Every day is a chance to be better than we were the day before.”

This isn’t the first instance of Beshear using props during his press conferences. Back in July, he humorously displayed a bottle of Diet Mountain Dew while addressing a comment he made criticizing Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance, apologizing to the soft drink’s makers for his remarks.

Beshear has garnered national attention since his reelection for a second term last year in the traditionally conservative state of Kentucky. He was also considered a potential vice-presidential candidate to accompany Kamala Harris, although the Democratic presidential nominee ultimately chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for the position.
