ROME — Roma’s coach Ivan Juric may have secured his position with a crucial 1-0 victory over Torino in Serie A on Thursday.
With increasing scrutiny following Roma’s heavy 5-1 defeat against Fiorentina just days earlier, Juric needed a positive result.
The match saw Paulo Dybala netting a goal in the first half, allowing Roma to arrest a troubling three-match winless run in the Italian league.
Juric took over the coaching reins last month, following the dismissal of Daniele De Rossi.
This win lifted Roma to the 12th position in the league standings, while Torino remained in ninth place.
Fiorentina climbed to fourth place after clinching a 1-0 victory against struggling Genoa, who sits at the bottom of the table.
The match was marked by Robin Gosens scoring halfway through the second half, and goalkeeper David De Gea’s acrobatic save in the dying moments preserved the win for Fiorentina.
Genoa’s new signing, Mario Balotelli, who joined the club on Monday, was not yet ready to participate.
In another match, Lazio, positioned fifth, trounced newly promoted Como 5-1, highlighted by two goals from Valentin Castellanos.
The game concluded with both teams reduced to ten players, and Como’s Luca Mazzitelli managed to score a stunning goal with a bicycle kick.
