SHIGA, Japan — Hana Wakimoto is making waves at the Toto Classic in Japan, posting an impressive 9-under par 63 during the opening round, giving her a two-stroke advantage over her competitors.

Following closely is South Korea’s Jin Young Ko, who finished with a score of 65 at the Seta Golf Course. A tight group of four players is three shots behind the leader, all scoring 66: Linn Grant, Ayake Furue, Hyo Joo Kim, and Jenny Shin, who are looking to climb the leaderboard in subsequent rounds.

Australian golfer Minjee Lee stands in a tie for seventh place after finishing her round with a score of 67. Meanwhile, Canadian Brooke Henderson posted a score of 70. Interestingly, only eight of the 78 players in the no-cut field finished the first round over par, indicating a highly competitive atmosphere.
