Anze Kopitar records 3 points and reaches 800th career assist in Kings’ 6-3 win against Golden Knights

LOS ANGELES – Anze Kopitar showcased his remarkable talent by contributing a goal and two assists during the Los Angeles Kings’ 6-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night. This match marked a significant milestone for Kopitar, as he achieved his 800th career assist, becoming only the fifth player from outside North America to reach this impressive figure.

In addition to Kopitar’s remarkable performance, teammates Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala each had a goal and an assist. Warren Foegele, Alex Laferriere, and Joel Edmundson also found the net for Los Angeles, which has managed to secure victories in three out of its last four games. Brandt Clarke contributed three assists, while Mikey Anderson recorded two assists. Darcy Kuemper, the Kings’ goaltender, made 23 saves throughout the game.

Kopitar’s highlight of the night was his assist on Fiala’s power-play goal at 6:23 in the third period, solidifying his place among hockey legends. This milestone places him alongside notable players such as Jaromir Jagr, Evgeni Malkin, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Henrik Sedin. Additionally, he now joins active NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Malkin, as well as Patrick Kane, among those who have achieved the notable 800-assist mark.

For the Golden Knights, Pavel Dorofeyev scored twice while Tanner Pearson added another goal. Goaltender Ilya Samsonov made 20 saves during the match.

Key observations from the game reveal that while the Golden Knights have a perfect 7-0 record at home, they remain winless on the road, sitting at 0-3-1. On the Kings’ side, Fiala’s performance was particularly noteworthy, as he logged 15 minutes on the ice and was eager to prove himself after being a healthy scratch the previous night due to a missed team meeting.

The sequence of the Kings’ goals was especially impressive, as they scored in quick succession. Foegele and Kempe netted their goals just 42 seconds apart in the first period. Following that, Laferriere and Kopitar both scored within a 44-second span in the second period, setting the score to 4-0. In the third period, Fiala and Edmundson each scored within a rapid 100 seconds.

Notably, Kopitar has established a remarkable record against the Golden Knights, tallying 15 goals and amassing 39 points in just 34 games—making him the all-time leader in points against Vegas.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are scheduled to face Utah on Saturday, while the Kings will host Chicago for their next matchup.
