MINNEAPOLIS — On Tuesday night, Anthony Edwards put on an impressive display for the Minnesota Timberwolves, scoring 24 points in the first quarter against the Dallas Mavericks, setting a Target Center record for a single quarter’s performance.
Edwards was remarkably efficient, shooting 8 for 10 from the field and nailing 6 out of 8 attempts from beyond the arc, as he played the entirety of the 12 minutes. This high-octane performance came during a highly anticipated rematch of last season’s Western Conference finals, in which Dallas had triumphed over Minnesota in five games.
However, the momentum shifted for Edwards in the second quarter, as he failed to score during the entire period.
Despite Edwards’ remarkable start, the Timberwolves have had notable high-scoring quarters from other players in their history. Karl-Anthony Towns holds the record for the highest-scoring quarter with 32 points during a third quarter against San Antonio on March 14, 2022, where he ultimately scored 60 points. Additionally, Chauncey Billups had an impressive third quarter in Dallas on February 19, 2002, scoring 24 points and finishing the game with 36 points.
