ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Jack Tuttle, the quarterback for Michigan, has announced his retirement from football after suffering his fifth concussion.

Tuttle shared his decision on social media Monday night, highlighting the ongoing series of injuries that have affected his college playing career. In addition to the concussions, he mentioned that he had not completely recovered from previous ligament damage in his throwing elbow.

“Unfortunately, experiencing my fifth concussion has led me to the painful realization that I need to prioritize my health,” Tuttle wrote. “Throughout my time in college athletics, I have faced numerous injuries, ultimately leading me to this challenging decision to step away from the sport I love.”

Tuttle made his season debut in Week 6 against Washington and went on to start a game two weeks later versus Illinois. During that game, he completed 20 passes on 32 attempts for a total of 208 yards but threw one interception, contributing to a 21-7 defeat against Illinois. Following the loss, the team reverted to Davis Warren, the original starter from Week 1, who led the Wolverines to a 24-17 victory over Michigan State last weekend.

Originally signed with Utah after high school, Tuttle played four seasons at Indiana before transferring to Michigan in 2023. His collegiate career concludes with 1,337 passing yards, seven touchdown passes, and eight interceptions. Tuttle expressed his intention to explore opportunities in coaching following his retirement.

“College football has granted me countless unforgettable memories and connected me with remarkable individuals who have shaped my character,” he commented. “I am forever grateful for every opportunity to take the field and for the unwavering support from those who have been by my side through both victories and challenges.”
