ORLANDO, Fla. — Paolo Banchero delivered an exceptional performance, setting a personal record with 50 points, leading the Orlando Magic to a narrow victory over the Indiana Pacers with a final score of 119-115 on Monday evening.
In addition to his scoring prowess, Banchero contributed significantly on the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds, and showcasing his playmaking skills with nine assists. Jalen Suggs also had a strong showing for the Magic, scoring 25 points and providing seven assists, while Mo Wagner added 14 points off the bench.
For the Pacers, Pascal Siakam led the way with 26 points and nine rebounds. Despite being down by 13 points at one point, Indiana managed to stage a comeback in the third quarter but struggled to maintain their momentum in the closing moments of the game. Tyrese Haliburton chipped in with 19 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists, but the Pacers ultimately fell short.
In a standout first half, Banchero amassed an impressive 37 points, tying a franchise record set by Tracy McGrady back on March 9, 2003.
Looking at the statistics, the Pacers struggled at the free-throw line, making 20 of their 30 attempts while dropping to a 1-3 record this season. Conversely, Banchero’s explosive scoring became crucial for the Magic, especially after they lost their top scorer, Franz Wagner, to illness in the third quarter.
A pivotal moment in the game occurred when the Magic’s lead was threatened following a 22-3 run by the Pacers. Banchero turned the tide with a timely steal in the backcourt, leading to a highlight-reel dunk by Mo Wagner that reduced the Pacers’ lead to one point, energizing the crowd and the team.
In terms of key stats, the Pacers’ performance at the free-throw line was notable as they shot 22 attempts in the third quarter but did not earn any in the fourth.
Next on the schedule, the Pacers will be facing the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night, while the Magic are set to embark on a five-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Chicago Bulls.
