Paolo Banchero matches Magic record by scoring 37 points in the first half

ORLANDO, Fla. — In an impressive display of skill, Paolo Banchero equaled the Orlando Magic record for points in a single half, putting up a remarkable 37 points during the first two quarters against the Indiana Pacers on Monday night.

Banchero, who was named the league’s rookie of the year two seasons ago and earned All-Star honors last year, showcased an exceptional shooting performance, converting 13 of 17 attempts from the field during the half. His contribution didn’t stop at scoring; he also recorded seven rebounds and six assists, playing a pivotal role in his team’s performance.

This outstanding half matched the record previously held by Tracy McGrady, who also scored 37 points in the first half against Washington back on March 10, 2004. Notably, McGrady concluded that game with an impressive 62 points, setting a club record.

Banchero entered this game with a career-high of 43 points, achieved on January 3 against Sacramento. Last season, there were four instances in which players scored 37 or more points in the first half: Devin Booker of Phoenix did so twice, and both Karl-Anthony Towns (previously of Minnesota, now with New York) and Luka Doncic of Dallas had one each.
