PITTSBURGH — In advance of Monday night’s matchup against the New York Giants, Justin Fields has been designated as the third quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers after experiencing a hamstring strain over the weekend.
Fields took the helm as the starting quarterback for the Steelers in the first six games of the season while Russell Wilson was sidelined due to a calf injury. As the Steelers (5-2) aim for their third consecutive win, Fields will be positioned behind Wilson and Kyle Allen.
The Steelers will also be without running back and kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson, who is missing his fourth game due to an ankle injury. Outside linebacker Nick Herbig remains inactive for the third consecutive week due to a hamstring issue, and center Zach Frazier will not play for the second week in a row due to an ankle problem. Additionally, cornerback C.J. Henderson is not available for the game.
In a recent move, the Steelers have placed rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury. Wilson, a third-round draft pick out of Michigan, has appeared in only one game this season after suffering an ankle injury that kept him out for part of the training camp.
On the Giants’ side, cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson (neck) and Cor’Dale Flott will also be inactive for this game. Other players not participating include linebacker Ty Summers, guard Jake Kubas, nose tackle Jordan Riley, punter Jamie Gillan, and quarterback Tommy DeVito.
