In a troubling development, Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German national, has been executed in Iran following his contentious conviction on charges related to terrorism. This information was confirmed by the Iranian judiciary on Monday. Sharmahd was abducted by Iranian security forces in Dubai back in 2020, sparking a wave of international concern regarding the legitimacy of the charges against him.

The Mizan news agency, which is associated with the Iranian judiciary, reported that his execution occurred in the early hours of Monday morning. His conviction stemmed from accusations by the Iranian authorities, who claimed he was the architect behind a 2008 bombing at a mosque that resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals and left over 200 injured. Furthermore, he was alleged to have been involved in other violent plots through the obscure organization known as the Kingdom Assembly of Iran and its associated militant group, Tondar.

Sharmahd’s family has vehemently denied these allegations and has been actively fighting for his release over the years. They argued that the evidence against him was insufficient and questioned the fairness of the legal proceedings that led to his execution.
