PARIS — After three decades since securing the world rally championship title in 1994, Didier Auriol from France is set to celebrate his monumental achievement.

The 66-year-old former champion will make a return to the competitive arena next month, participating in the final event of this year’s world championship, which will be held in Japan. This marks Auriol’s first entry into the rally competition since 2005.

Teaming up with co-driver Denis Giraudet, Auriol will navigate a Toyota GR Yaris in the event’s national category, as announced by the World Rally Championship organization earlier this week.

Auriol’s 1994 victory came while he was driving a Toyota Celica, making him the first French driver to achieve this prestigious rally title.
