Mario Balotelli is currently undergoing a medical examination with Genoa, a team fighting to avoid relegation, as he gears up for a return to Serie A after an absence of over four years.
The 34-year-old forward, who is currently a free agent, is anticipated to finalize a contract that will extend until the conclusion of the current season.
Balotelli’s last experience in Italy’s premier league was with his childhood club, Brescia, during the 2019-20 season. His most recent game for any Italian team was with Monza in Serie B for the 2020-21 season.
Following his departure from the Turkish team Adana Demirsport after the previous season, Balotelli is viewed as an economical choice for the financially-strapped Genoa, particularly as they struggled offensively, managing only two shots on target during their 3-0 defeat to Lazio, marking their fifth loss in just six matches.
There is a possibility that Balotelli will make his debut for Genoa this Thursday against Fiorentina.
Upon arriving for his medical appointment, Balotelli expressed his eagerness to get back on the field, stating, “I really don’t want to talk much; I want to play. I hope I’m ready soon.”
Throughout his career, Balotelli has had stints with other Serie A clubs, including Inter Milan and AC Milan.
