PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Union announced the untimely passing of Holden Trent, a 25-year-old backup goalkeeper, who died on Saturday.

The club did not disclose the reasons behind his death, though it was reported on his family’s Instagram account that he had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit recently.

In a mournful statement, the Philadelphia Union expressed their sorrow over Trent’s passing, highlighting his qualities as both a player and a fierce competitor.

Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Trent was selected as the 28th pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft after playing college soccer at High Point University. Despite not making his debut with the first team yet, he had participated in numerous matches with Union II during the current season.
