EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — On Saturday, Dexter Dunn steered Twin B Joe Fresh to a commanding victory in the $400,000 Breeders Crown Mare Pace at the Meadowlands Racetrack. This win enabled Dunn to set a new mark for the most Breeders Crown triumphs by a driver in a single year, reaching a total of six.
Previously, the record of five victories was held by David Miller, who achieved this feat in 2015 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
Dunn’s win with Twin B Joe Fresh, who is currently the top-ranked horse in harness racing’s Top 10 poll, took place in the final event of the 12 Breeders Crown races held over the weekend at the Meadowlands.
Earlier in the weekend, Dunn also secured wins on Friday with Miki And Minnie, a 2-year-old female pacer, and Maryland, a male trotter of the same age. He then followed up on Saturday by winning with My Girl EJ, a 3-year-old female pacer, Mirage Hanover, a 3-year-old male pacer, and Winner’s Bet, a 4-year-old male trotter, before clinching the final race with Twin B Joe Fresh.
Trained by Chris Ryder, the 4-year-old Twin B Joe Fresh has displayed remarkable performance this year, winning 10 of her 12 races and accumulating earnings of $827,062. She captured her Breeders Crown win with a margin of 1 3/4 lengths over Kobe’s Gigi, clocking a time of 1:49, which was just one-fifth of a second off the stakes record.
