LOS ANGELES — Star player Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers sustained an injury to his left arm during the seventh inning of Saturday’s World Series Game 2 against the New York Yankees while attempting to steal second base. The extent of the injury has not yet been determined.
Upon being tagged out by shortstop Anthony Volpe following a feet-first slide, Ohtani was seen promptly gripping his left forearm. He remained near the base for several moments before medical staff attended to him, and he subsequently exited the field.
According to reports from the Dodgers’ dugout, the injury appears to be related to Ohtani’s left shoulder. The prominent Japanese player, who is a frontrunner for the National League MVP award, had a challenging game, finishing with no hits in three at-bats along with a walk. At the time of his injury, the Dodgers held a 4-1 lead. Overall, Ohtani has struggled in the first two games of the World Series, registering one hit out of eight at-bats. His postseason statistics also reflect a batting average of .260, with three home runs and 10 runs batted in during his debut playoffs in Major League Baseball.
