PHILADELPHIA — In a thrilling match on Saturday, Villanova secured a 14-6 victory against New Hampshire, thanks to the impressive performance of quarterback Connor Watkins, who threw two touchdown passes.
The game was tightly contested, with Villanova slightly leading in total yards, 257 to New Hampshire’s 254. The Wildcats effectively utilized two lengthy drives, one spanning 81 yards and another 99 yards, resulting in both of their touchdowns. In the second quarter, Watkins connected with Lucas Kopecky on a 25-yard pass for Villanova’s first touchdown. He later completed the 99-yard drive in the fourth quarter with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Devin Smith, giving Villanova a decisive 14-3 advantage.
New Hampshire managed to score a 40-yard field goal by Nick Mazzie, his second of the game, with just one minute left on the clock.
Watkins demonstrated his efficiency by completing 7 of 13 passes for a total of 112 yards without any interceptions. As for New Hampshire, quarterback Barry Kleinpeter threw for 125 yards on 14-of-22 passing. Myles Thomason stood out as the leading rusher of the game, accumulating 79 yards on the ground.
With this win, Villanova improved their season record to 6-2, maintaining a position of strength within the Coastal Athletic Conference at 3-1. Meanwhile, New Hampshire’s record fell to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
