FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Kobe Johnson made a remarkable 82-yard punt return for a touchdown, propelling Colorado State to a 17-6 victory against New Mexico on Saturday.
In a strong second quarter, the Rams managed to score all 17 of their points. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and Caleb Goodie connected for a 46-yard touchdown, contributing significantly to the homecoming triumph for Colorado State, who now hold a record of 5-3 and are unbeaten in the Mountain West Conference at 3-0.
Johnson showcased his agility as he fielded the punt along the left sideline, maneuvering skillfully through defenders before finding an open path down the right sideline.
The scoring was initiated by Luke Drzewiecki, who kicked a 29-yard field goal just one minute into the second quarter. He later followed up with another successful attempt from 43 yards at 6:22 of the third quarter for the Lobos, who now stand at 3-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Following the first field goal, Fowler-Nicolosi executed a deep pass to Goodie, who received the ball perfectly in stride at the goal line on a post route. Fowler-Nicolosi completed 11 of his 20 pass attempts, totaling 142 yards.
On the receiving end for New Mexico, Ryan Davis delivered a standout performance, recording nine catches for 146 yards. Despite Devon Dampier completing 23 of 40 passes for a total of 319 yards, he struggled with two costly interceptions.
New Mexico outgained Colorado State with 453 total yards compared to the Rams’ 334 yards, yet they were hindered by four turnovers that proved pivotal in the outcome of the game.
